A brave police officer saved a poisoned snake by giving it mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

The snake had slithered into a pipe and the residents tried to kill it by pouring insecticide-laced water into it in the Narmadapuram district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, October 24. But when Constable Atul Sharma arrived, the snake was already motionless.

In a video, Atul can be seen examining the lifeless snake, checking for breathing and a pulse. He then places the animal on the ground, holding its head in one hand while pouring water over it with the other.

He gives the snake mouth-to-mouth resuscitation repeatedly and continues to pour water on it. Slowly, the snake starts to move again, much to the delight of the onlookers.

After an hour, the revived snake was released back into the forest. Local media identified the snake as Ptyas mucosa, also known as the Oriental rat snake or Indian rat snake. This species is non-venomous, fast-moving and large, typically found in south and south-eastern Asia.

The news comes after a tipsy bloke nearly met a grisly end when he tried to take a selfie with a massive python at a petrol station in Valapattanam, near Kannur, Kerala, India, on October 20.

The man, known only as Chandran, appeared under the influence of alcohol as he tried to get the snake to wind his body for a photo – but things started to go wrong when the reptile began coiling around his neck.

Chandran quickly collapsed under the snake's grip, but a quick-thinking petrol station worker named Abhishek came to his rescue in the nick of time. The snake slithered away and vanished under a nearby lorry, following the daring save.
