Moment woman’s hair gets tangled in Ferris Wheel as she dangles 25ft in the air

Terrifying moment festival reveller’s hair gets tangled in Ferris wheel

A heart-wrenching video shows the desperate attempts to save a woman after her hair got stuck in the rotor shaft of a Ferris Wheel.

The festival-goer yelled in fear and pain after she remained trapped while aboard one of the cabins of the metal structure, dangling 25ft above the ground.

The incident, which happened in the Indian town of Dwarka during the Shireshwar Carnival in Khambhalia, Gujarat, India could have cost the woman’s life had staff and locals not intervened promptly.

The chilling footage shows how, even after the funfair staff stopped the wheel, the woman could not move as her hair had got caught in the metal structure.

But heroic men climbed the wheel to reach and help the festival-goer and sawed at her hair in a desperate attempt to free her.

While one of the rescuers could be seen in the clip helping from inside the cabin, another was filmed trying to cut the hair and free the woman’s head.

The video also showed dozens of people on the ground looking in disbelief and horror as the scene unfolded.

Some of the onlookers were heard providing the rescuers with suggestions on how to extricate the woman’s hair from the shaft.

Younger and less compassionate eyewitnesses were spotted laughing as they found the life-threatening ordeal amusing.

The woman was eventually saved, but her hair had to be ripped off from the wheel structure.

Some of the revellers at the carnival were shocked by the incident, and expressed their hope to see regulations being enforced to ensure the safety of festival-goers.

One said: “It is very crucial that concerned authorities take prompt action to demonstrate their commitment towards ensuring public safety when such festivals take place.”

Another man said: “Why can’t we enforce stringent regulations to prevent future mishaps.”

The incident in Dwarka and the concern expressed by the revellers came months after a similar ordeal claimed the life of a young woman.

A 20-year-old girl from Bankura, West Bengal, died after her hair was caught in the rotor shaft of a Ferris Wheel.

And in August, a schoolgirl who was enjoying a ride on a Ferris Wheel in Mansbal Park, in the Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir, reportedly plunged through a narrow gap in the cabin, but managed to save her life by clutching to the iron bars as she was being rescued.
