Donald Trump has secured his position as the lead candidate for the Republican nomination, leaving opponents in the dust in most polls so far this year.

His backers have widely remained steadfast in their support despite the multiple criminal charges leveled at the former president over the past six months.

And they are likely to launch a “January, 6, 2025 on steroids” pushback against the establishment should he fail to win the presidential election in 2024, according to expert Prof. Inderjeet Parmar.

The City, University of London academic told Daily Express US that MAGA voters could opt for a much wider insurrection in the event of Joe Biden beating their candidate once more.

While he noted veteran Republicans are concerned about Trump costing them the election if picked as a nominee, he said voters have remained staunchly in the Trump camp.

He said: “Trump’s supporters have cemented his likelihood of winning the nomination through a winner takes-all and other GOP primaries election rule changes in several states.

“Whichever candidate wins the GOP vote takes all that state’s delegates to the nominating convention. Trump effectively controls the GOP machine.

“The party’s more established and traditional leaders are flummoxed as they feel Trump’s a major distraction and likely to lose in 2024.

“And they fear his victory and its effects on political stability and America’s global role and positions.”

But Trump’s loss could lead to his supporters rebelling against what they would perceive to be a “stolen” election.

He continued: “On the other hand, GOP voters feel the opposite – that they via Trump will win unless the election is stolen by the ‘deep state’ and ‘RINOS’ – setting the stage for January, 6 2025 on steroids.

“A rather frightening prospect for the world’s leading democracy and military power.”

Supporters of the former president assembled outside the Capitol in Washington DC on January 6, 2021 as Congress prepared to certify the results of the election in favor of President Biden.

In the days leading to the attack, Trump repeatedly urged his supporters to back his claims that the election was “stolen by emboldened radical-left Democrats.”

A House select committee investigating the storming of the building later concluded the incident was the zenith of a seven-part plan to keep Trump in power despite losing the vote.
